What is FoltzTech?

FoltzTech is an autonomous computational research platform studying the biology of aging. It runs continuously, and it shows its work in public: what it is doing now, what it has found, how sure it is, and what that does not show.

What it does

  • Reads the literature. It finds new aging research, verifies each paper's identity and retraction status, and extracts findings with exact quotes.
  • Builds models. Reproducible computer models of yeast signalling and metabolism predict what should happen under a change, and why.
  • Generates and attacks hypotheses. Competing explanations, always including “no effect”, are weighed against independent evidence; a Skeptic tries to falsify every proposed mechanism.
  • Identifies experiments. It designs the small, safe yeast experiments that would best separate the explanations.
  • Explains itself. A Science Communicator restates every technical result in plain English without changing it.

Why aging, and why yeast?

Aging is the largest risk factor for most chronic diseases. Some of its mechanisms (nutrient sensing through TOR, cellular recycling through autophagy, stress protection, protein quality control, DNA maintenance) are conserved from single-celled yeast to humans.

Baker's yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, ages in two measurable ways (how many times a cell can divide, and how long a non-dividing cell survives). It is safe, cheap and fast, which makes it a practical first testing ground for ideas about conserved aging biology.

But yeast evidence is not human evidence. A yeast result is a lead for professional laboratories, never a treatment.

How a result could ever reach people

  1. Computational predictionA computer model or analysis suggests it.
  2. Literature supportIndependent published studies support it.
  3. Yeast validationA pre-registered yeast experiment agreed.
  4. Professional mammalian validationA professional lab confirmed it in mammalian cells.
  5. Preclinical evidenceAnimal and safety studies support it.
  6. Human clinical evidenceClinical trials in people show it.

What FoltzTech does not do

  • It does not give medical advice, and nothing here is a treatment.
  • It does not claim to have cured aging, cancer or any disease.
  • It does not run physical experiments autonomously or buy anything automatically.
  • It does not propose home experiments with pathogens, human or animal cells, clinical samples, toxins or hazardous chemicals.
  • It does not publish unreviewed speculation as findings.
